Can Former Seadog Owens Match Rohr? [VIDEO]
Highly touted prospect Henry Owens makes his major league debut tonight - against the Yankees at Yankee Stadium. It conjures up memories of former Sox lefty Billy Rohr.
It was 1967, the so-called 'Impossible Dream' year. Billy Rohr was a 21-year-old lefty pitcher for the Sox who matched up against Yankee great Whitey Ford.
Carl Yastrzemski made a great catch in leftfield to preserve a no-hitter, only to have Elston Howard get a hit with two outs in the ninth inning. Rohr's major league debut was a 3-0 one hitter win over NY.
Sox fans must hope Owens has a longer career than Rohr. He pitched in only 27 major league games in 1967 and 1968. His career record was 3-3.
