Western New Brunswick Trailer Manufacturer Honored For Safety

If you've ever followed BWS Manufacturing on social media or visited the trailer manufacturing facility in Centreville, New Brunswick, you know their strong policy held on safety.

All visitors sign in and are escorted through the facility by a staff member. When entering the factory, they are made aware of the yellow lines marked for foot path, the noises they will hear from a forklift and what the sounds are. Next, the visitor is equipped with PPE, Personal Protective Equipment, and the staff is made aware of a visitor in the factory.

When hired at BWS, for any position, staff are first taken to the conference room and briefed on safety proceedings and policy. The management has identified that making their staff aware of potential threats has aided in the reduction of industrial accidents.

Some of the measures taken to protect the staff include cut proof work gloves, the implementation of a safety stop light, prescription safety eyewear program, safety boot program, zero tolerance program, tool box talks, safety orientation with new employees, improved MSDS sheet process flow and a safety incentive program.

This month, BWS marked one year of safe working, with no lost-time accidents. The company says it's committed to protecting their staff and keeping them safe. To reward the staff for a job well done, BWS will purchase all employees a new spring coat. The management team is also working to enhance the current program to provide a continuously safe environment for all employees.

Originally BWS was a manufacturer of custom trailers with a focus on forestry. Having built a reputation in this rough off-road industry and operating in the tough Canadian winters, BWS today manufacture trailers designed to the customer’s expectations in the environment in which they operate. Over the years, product lines expanded into areas the company felt were in need of innovative and quality solutions that also deliver value.

Randall McDougall purchased BWS from his father, Burney in 1993 and further extended the product lines available. In 2000, BWS released the patented Air Detachable Gooseneck trailer and solidified their position in the industry by producing the 1st detachable gooseneck which utilizes air power only.

In 2012, BWS expanded their work space on the Hawkins Road in Centreville and grew productivity exponentially to a 200,000 square-foot facility on 39 acres.  The original work site is still maintained for paint and finishing, while the new factory houses all the current expansions.
