Both Husson University basketball teams built big leads and cruised to wins in their respective North Atlantic Conference openers over UMaine Farmington.The Husson men beat the Beavers 88-65 thanks to the all-around play of Trevon Butler who poured in a game high 24 points including the 1,000th point of his career. Butler also added 9 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals.

Raheem Anderson chipped in with 17 points thanks to 5 for 9 shooting behind the 3-point arch while Jordan Holmes was the third player in double digits with 14 points.

The win puts the Eagles record at 2-1 on the season.

The Husson women took care of the Beavers 73-56 for their first win of the season. Senior Vicki McIntyre led the Eagles with 18 points and 6 rebounds.

Guards Chandler Guerrette and MacKenzie Worcester led a hard charging fast break offense scoring 15 points each.

Defense was a key factor for Husson who forced UMaine Farmington into 32 turnovers and turned them into 27 points.

Both Husson teams return to action on Saturday when they host Maine Maritime Academy.
