The Boston Bruins made two picks last night in the first round of the NHL Draft and selected defenseman Charlie McAvoy from Boston University at pick 14 and center Trent Frederic at pick 29.

McAvoy is a New York native who played for the Terriers for just one season.  With BU he played in 37 games and scored three goals, had 22 assists, and tallied 56 penalty minutes.  McAvoy is described a speedy offensive-minded defensemen and played his freshman year of college as the youngest player in college hockey according the CSNNE’s Joe Haggerty.

Frederic is a St Louis native that was listed as the #85 overall prospect on by the Hockey Prospect website.  He played 61 games for the US National U18 Team and had 20 goals and assists for 40 overall points.  Federic is committed to play for the University of Wisconsin in the fall.

The Bruins will have five selections on Saturday as the rounds two through seven get underway at 10 a.m.
