School officials reported the threat to the State Police barracks in Houlton just before afternoon dismissal. The students were dismissed on time and there was no disruption of classes, according to Corp. Chuck Michaud.

School officials and Troopers along with a State Police Explosives Detection K-9 checked the school and found no evidence of explosives or any harmful devices.

The investigation is active and ongoing, Michaud said. No further details are available at this time.

Katahdin Elementary School is part of RSU#50, which serves a dozen communities in southern Aroostook and northern Penobscot counties.
