West District RCMP are investigating the crash that occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Chemin Montagne-de-la-Croix in Rivière-Verte. Constable Alain Verret of the Grand Falls Detachment said Sunday that speed and black ice are believed to have been contributing factors in the crash.

The vehicle skidded off the road and flipped, landing upside down in a ditch. The driver, and lone occupant of the vehicle, died at the scene as a result of his injuries, RCMP said.

The investigation is continuing.
