Billie Joe Armstrong Says Donald Trump Is ‘F—ing Hitler’

Green Day’s upcoming album, Revolution Radio, is, like 2004’s American Idiot, very politically charged, and frontman Billie Joe Armstrong is wading into the world of presidential politics. In a new interview, he compared Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler.

Speaking to Kerrang (as reported by Billboard), he noted that the  real estate mogul/reality TV show host has used the same type of rhetoric as Hitler in their respective rises to power. “The worst problem I see about Trump is who his followers are,” he said. “I actually feel bad for them, because they’re poor, working-class people who can’t get a leg up. They’re pissed off and he’s preyed on their anger. He just said, ‘You have no options and I’m the only one, and I’m going to take care of it myself.’ I mean, that’s f---ing Hitler, man!”

And while he admitted that he’s sounding a bit like half of your social media feeds these days, he can’t find a more apt analogy. “I don’t even know how else to explain it,” he continued. “I wish I were over-exaggerating. And sometimes maybe I do over-exaggerate with [President George W.] Bush. But with Trump, I just can’t wait ’til he’s gone.”

Revolution Radio, Green Day’s 10th record, will be released Oct. 7, one month and one day before Election Day. Its first single, “Bang Bang,” which you can listen to it here, deals with the recent rash of gun violence. “It’s about the culture of mass shooting that happens in America mixed with narcissistic social media,” he said. “There’s this sort of rage happening, but it’s also now being filmed and we all have ourselves under surveillance. To me, that is so twisted. To get into the brain of someone like that was freaky. It freaked me out. After I wrote it, all I wanted to do was get that out of my brain because it just freaked me out.”
