Maine Winter Sports Center has owned and administered outside financial support to Bigrock since 2000.

The Libra Foundation funding for Bigrock was meant to be "…sustainable for the long term…" according to Andy Shepard, President and CEO of the Maine Winter Sports Center. Shepard says "…it's time to see if [Bigrock] can become a truly community-backed enterprise again…"

"Bigrock has been a fixture in the winter economy and culture of the region for over 50 years," said Shepard. "The improvements from the past decadeplus are now firmly in place and there should be great opportunities for the people of Aroostook County to keep Bigrock Mountain going."

Since MWSC purchased Bigrock - The Libra Foundation has invested over $6 million - resulting in the expansion of the mountain's snowmaking capabilities and improvements all over the mountain.

The MWSC announced back on June 25th, 2013 that it would no longer support Black Mountain in Rumford after 10-years of ownership. 24 days later on July 19th it was announced the local community ski area had raised the necessary funding to take over operations and keep the mountain open.
