In Biddeford, it doesn't get much bigger than high school football.

I first walked through the doors of Biddeford High School 10 years ago this month, and I distinctly remember two things from my first day: A massive mural in the Tiger Gym emblazoned with "YOU'RE IN TIGER TERRITORY," and the first teacher that welcomed me to class.

Brian Curit is one of those teachers you want to learn from. He lives and breathes Biddeford, and he's been recognized as one of the school's top coaches for years.

Last week, Curit joined the late Mike Landry, Biddeford's legendary head coach in the '70s, '80s and '90s, by leading the Tigers to victory over Noble at Waterhouse Field and winning his 100th game as head coach. While players, students and community members cheered Curit's achievement, Brian remained characteristically humble and thanked the team for their dedication and hard work.

"I was a freshman coach in 1990 when coach Landry won his 100th. I hold him in such high esteem... he was my mentor," Curit told WMTW this week after his 100th win.

Curit's contributions to BHS and the community didn't end at the endzone. As the opposite of an "athletic" student when I was in high school (student council, not quarterback), I always thought it was amazing that the head football coach was one of my best teachers, took an active interest in everyone (not just his players), and cared about everyone in class just as much as everyone on the field. While every coach strives for that distinction, not many can balance both well. He's one of the best.

Congrats to Coach Curit on his 100th win!
