Patriots coach Bill Belichick admitted that his team probably had the best quarterback situation in the league for the past couple of years but then saide something had to give.

"It's definitely not something we wanted to walk away from," he said. "I felt like we rode it out as long as we could. Over a period of time, we explored every option possible to try to sustain it. But at this point, felt like we had to make a decision.

Hence the trade to San Francisco for a 2018 2nd round draft pick.

Belichick would not address the backup QB spot, whether it's Brian Hoyer or someone else. Right now Tom Brady is the only quarterback on the roster.

The Patriots are in a bye week before heading to Denver November 12th.
