These New ‘Wonder Woman’ Photos Will Hold You Over Until Tonight’s Sneak Peek on ‘Gotham’
Although Warner Bros. released a handful of TV spots late last week, there’s some concern among fans about the lack of promotion for Wonder Woman, which hits theaters in just a few short weeks. In comparison to other big-budget blockbusters (and superhero films in particular), the marketing for Wonder Woman has been relatively low-key — strange, since it’s such a highly-anticipated summer release for several reasons, not the least of which is that it’s the first solo female superhero film in over a decade.
Ewan McGregor to Play Winnie the Pooh’s BFF in ‘Christopher Robin’
Even though Jean Dujardin was the obvious choice, Ewan McGregor delivered a perfectly charming take on Lumiere in Disney’s live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast. Not only was the film a huge hit at the box-office (breaking a record previously held by Star Wars — STAR WARS), but it seems like McGregor was a hit with Disney, as the studio is eyeing the actor to take the lead in another live-action project based on a beloved classic property.
M. Night Shyamalan Sets ‘Unbreakable’ Sequel ‘Glass’ for 2019
After years of toying with and publicly teasing the possibility of a sequel to his 2000 film Unbreakable, M. Night Shyamalan is finally ready to pull the trigger. The director has officially set a return to his darkly subversive take on the superhero genre as his next project. The follow-up, titled Glass, will hit theaters in 2019 — and those are the basics. If you want to know more, you’re warned of potential SPOILERS for another Shyamalan film with connections to Unbreakable.
‘The Lion King’ Casts Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen as Live-Action Timon and Pumbaa
Jon Favreau’s “live-action” (let’s use that term loosely, here) remake of The Lion King is batting 1,000 when it comes to casting, with Donald Glover in the role of Simba and Beyoncé (rumored) for the role of Nala. But today’s additions might be the most perfect yet, as Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen have signed on to voice Timon and Pumbaa, everyone’s favorite unlikely-but-lovable meerkat and warthog buddy duo. Meanwhile, we’ll just be waiting for the other shoe to drop in this casting situation — like, say, if Favreau decides to cast Steve Bannon as Scar. Wait, actually that would be sort of perfect.
You Need to Hear David Hasselhoff’s Ridiculous ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ Song
Young folks are probably best acquainted with David Hasselhoff in the ironic sense, like some kitschy relic unearthed in their parents’ attic during a recon mission to find the most absurd pop culture fossil for their growing collection of dank memes. But us olds know The Hoff as a beloved ’80s icon, star of Baywatch and Knight Rider, and a weird German pop music icon — so it’s not entirely surprising that James Gunn solicited Hasselhoff to help record a song for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. And it is special.
Disney Eyes Will Smith for Genie Role in Guy Ritchie’s Live-Action ‘Aladdin’
Get your Prince Ali mash-up memes ready because Will Smith might be taking on the role of the charismatic Genie in Disney’s live-action remake of Aladdin. The studio was previously in talks with Smith to play the villain role in Tim Burton’s live-action Dumbo movie, and although those discussions ultimately fell apart, it looks as though Disney might be able to land the actor for a part in another one of their many, many, many live-action remakes.
What’s Expiring From Netflix Instant: May 2017
You know the drill: Every month, Netflix Instant delivers a glorious bounty of new titles for us to stream until we can’t feel our butts anymore. But just as Netflix giveth, so must they taketh away, and with each new month comes a list of movies and TV shows that are set to expire from the streaming service — some temporarily, some perhaps forever. Think of it as your monthly reminder to stop procrastinating with that bloated queue of yours.
Take a Tour of the Young Han Solo Set and Meet a New Alien in ‘Star Wars’ Charity Video
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Star Wars, Lucasfilm’s Force for Change has partnered with Omaze for a huge charity drive commemorating the past, present and future of the franchise. That future includes Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s (still untitled) young Han Solo spinoff, which is still lightyears (OK, months) away from release, so it’ll quite a while before we see a teaser. But with Force for Change heading into hyper-drive, we can expect more videos like the one above, in which Star Wars vet Warwick Davis drops in on Lord and Miller’s set and gives us a special sneak peek at a new alien character.
James Gunn Will Write and Direct ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’
Ever since he signed on to direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the biggest question James Gunn has faced — aside from the usual inquiries about Star-Lord’s dad and what’s up with the villain — is whether he’d return for Vol. 3. His answer, consistently: He just doesn’t know. That changed this afternoon, as Gunn himself made an official announcement on his Facebook page — no need to play coy about this one since you already read the headline.
Ridley Scott Says Future ‘Alien’ Prequels ‘Could’ Use CGI to Bring Young Ripley Back
Thanks to the wonders of CGI technology (or “movie magic”), we’ve seen several actors restored to their youthful forms on the big screen — or, in the case of Peter Cushing in last year’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, brought back from the dead (a questionable move, to say the least). Martin Scorsese is planning to digitally de-age Robert De Niro for his long-developing mob drama The Irishman, and now another iconic director is mulling the possibility.
