On February 6, 2008, the body of 56-year-old Darrel Smith was discovered at his home on Thomas Road in Woodland in central Aroostook County in northern Maine. His murder has not been solved.

Darrel was the owner of Smith’s Sawmill and Logging. His wallet and a safe were missing from the property. The safe was later recovered.

Investigators say, despite many interviews and nine years of investigative efforts, no one has been arrested for Darrel’s murder.

Smith left behind a wife, step-daughter and grandson.

State Police are hoping some form of evidence leading to the solving of this crime can still be located.
