Aroostook County Collection Sites For Saturday’s Drug Take-Back Day
The 11th National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is Saturday, April 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and several agencies in Aroostook County will serve as collection sites.
Drug Take-Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while educating the public about the potential for abuse of medications.
During the last daylong event in September 2015, nearly 10 tons of unwanted medications was collected in Maine alone. Federal regulations allow pharmacies, hospitals, clinics, police and other authorized agencies to serve as collection points for unused prescription medications.

Prescription drug abuse is a rapidly growing crisis in Maine and our local communities. A majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including the home medicine cabinet.
U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King issued a statement on Drug Take-Back Day saying, “We are confident that Mainers will continue to show that they are more than willing to make the effort to protect their children, their homes, and our environment from the abuse and improper handling of unused prescription drugs by participating in this program.”
