Did you watch the Grammy Awards last night? I did. There are areas in which I adore the National Association of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS), which is the governing and voting body for the Grammys. Then there are areas where I ask WTH?

To me, NARAS does a lot of good for musicians, music education and even various charities. I would in no way suggest doing away with the organization. But who is doing the planning and the voting? The Grammys are not like the 'People's Choice,' they are voted on by people within the industry. The format of Rock and Heavy Metal is an afterthought. Sure there was representation by the likes of Metallica, Black Sabbath (don't make Ozzy read), and Paul and Ringo, but where were the nominations?

I think I ruffled feathers when I began to crack jokes on Facebook about the show itself. 'Well they're up onstage at the Grammys and we're sitting on our butts on the couch at home,' said one friend. Yes, we are. I'm the one shelling out money to go and see them in concert and buy their wares too; so I'm allowed. Lighten up people. Madonna DID look like Colonel Sanders. That's not opinion, that's fact.

What did you think of last night's Grammy Awards? Does an artist winning a Grammy really motivate you to buy their stuff?

Call the show at 764-ROCK or tell us on Facebook.
