Are Local Podcasts Coming Back? Check Out These 8 New Maine-Based Shows!
Is it 2005 or 2015? It could be either, because more Mainers than ever are downloading and hosting their own podcasts.
A year ago, the Washington Post published a story about how podcasts are on their way back, and making money too. Here in Maine, there are dozens of new episodes every day from all over the state.
Local music, Maine food, the arts, you name it... there's someone podcasting about it.
Here's a list of some of the most interesting Maine-based podcasts we've found!
The Humble Farmer
The Humble Farmer is a Maine humorist and former jazz musician. Now an aged social commentator, he has been compared with Mark Twain, Jean Shepherd, Art Buchwald and Garrison Keillor. After each rant, Humble plays classic jazz from the 30s, 40s or 50s. He panders to the intelligentsia.
Fast Food Date
Kate and Jonathan, two Portland musicians, meet up and eat fast food at different spots around the city every week. They visit a ton of different places and talk food, family memories, and whatever might be on their minds. It's oddly interesting to listen to two people eat in real time and comment on the things we're all familiar with.
The Maine Show
Ben Sprague, a Bangor city councilor and former Mayor of the Queen City, has started a weekly series on Maine newsmakers, personalities, business people, and ordinary people from across the state who do extraordinary things.
Freezing Process
A Maine podcast about the local music scene, and our place in the musical universe. Interviews and discussions with musicians at venues like the new Portland House of Music & Events, and more.
What's With You? Scooby-Doo!
One of the kookier local shows involves people watching Scooby-Doo. Host Nic invites a friend over to watch an episode of Scooby-Doo from anywhere in the vast franchise! Discussions and digression abound in the fun romp through childhood, pop-culture nostalgia and bad impressions.
Born Yesterday
A weekly look at those interesting bits of history that have gotten lost in the cushions. Born Yesterday is researched, written, edited & produced by Joey Brunelle. Remember: history doesn’t repeat itself, but it does rhyme.

Subject Deviation
The classic show about anything and everything. Just two dudes from Maine who were inspired to start a Podcast of their own. They both have passion for talking and decided to share chats with anyone who will listen. Isn't this what podcasting is all about? Discussions could cover anything under the sun. No topic is safe, no topic is too risky.
