Anthrax Perform Acoustic Version of ‘Breathing Lightning’ [Watch]

In late February earlier this year, New York thrash legends Anthrax released, For All Kings, their 11th studio album, which has been met with both critical and fan praise. One of the feature tracks, "Breathing Lightning," was given a makeover when the band swung by Loudwire Nights affiliate KLAQ in El Paso, Texas to deliver a stunning acoustic version of the track as seen in the video above.

It's always interesting to hear the stripped down version of otherwise heavy and aggressive songs and the acoustic rendition here is no exception. Anthrax are seated in a row with drummer Charlie Benante trading in his sticks and skins for an acoustic guitar as he joined axemen Scott Ian and Jonathan Donais.

Joey Belladonna gives a remarkable performance here, not deviating far from his studio vocal take, but it works to retain a distinct edge to the song rather than dipping into a low croon. Frank Bello also provides backing vocals as he strums away on his four string acoustic bass next to Belladonna.

Anthrax were so enthused with the rendition that this version has also now been released as an official radio single.

Anthrax have been road warriors this year embarking on multiple tours and recently wrapped up a support slot for Slayer which also featured Death Angel as openers. The trek came to an end on Oct. 27 in El Paso, Texas, which is when Anthrax swung by KLAQ for the performance.

It's been a busy year outside of the band as well as Ian landed a spot hosting his new radio show Never Meet Your Heroes. The program airs on SiriusXM's new Volume channel, a talk radio station dedicated to music only.
