UPDATE: The latest teaser trailer for American Horror Story was unleashed Thursday (August 18), and the clip possibly drops a major clue that the forthcoming sixth season may be interconnected with the series' previous five.

In a teaser titled "Anthology," a creepily linked montage of promos for the show's first five seasons — "Murder House," "Asylum," "Coven," "Freak Show" and "Hotel" — plays as a girl is heard humming a sickly-sweet melody in the background. Scenes from the upcoming season's other spine-tingling trailers are also featured, while a caption for the video on YouTube cryptically reads, "Murder. Madness. Magic. Misfits. Mayhem… Mystery?"

While the latest clip may seem to indicate that all six seasons will become somehow linked come September 14, much like some of the other recently revealed teasers, this could be yet another ingeniously evil misdirect from showrunner Ryan Murphy.

ORIGINAL POST (AUGUST 15): Four new trailers for American Horror Story's upcoming Season 6 have been released -- each more traumatizing than the last -- but can viewers trust any of them?

Keeping in line with the past six teasers already unveiled, the latest four videos -- which include a spine-snapping alien abduction, a grotesque collection of human teeth and a quick-moving monster -- offer viewers a possible overarching theme, though there's still no official word as to what Season 6 will offer in terms of plot. And considering all but one trailer are purposeful misdirects, audiences likely won't know what the show has in store for them until the season's September 14 premiere date.

FX productions CEO John Landgraf admitted to an audience at last week’s (August 9) Television Critics Association that the series creators, Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, took a different approach in unveiling the season's theme in an attempt to offer fans a fresh take on the series’ sixth installment.

"What [FX marketing president] Stephanie Gibbons and her team, with Ryan’s help, did is they went out and made many more trailers for hypothetical seasons of American Horror Story; different genres and different places. One of them is accurate and the others are all misdirects,” Landgraf said. “So we’re just having fun with it, and we just thought it would be fun after five years of doing it one way.”

A new teaser featuring a retro pulp-film Creature From the Black Lagoon-style attack was posted today (August 15):
