Ambulance Rollover on Route 11 in Masardis

Maine State Police responded to Route 11 in Masardis early Wednesday morning after an ambulance went off the road and struck a utility pole.

Sixty-five-year-old Russell Jandreau of Fort Kent was operating a Fort Kent Ambulance northbound around 4 a.m. when he fell asleep on a curve, according to a news release from Sgt. Jeffrey Clark. Jandreau woke up and attempted to correct the vehicle but it was already too far into the ditch. The ambulance struck a utility pole, and rolled over, Clark said.

Jandreau and one other ambulance attendant were transported by Ashland Fire & Rescue to TAMC with what police called "non life threatening injuries." There was no patient on board at the time of the crash. The vehicle was a total loss, Sgt. Clark said.

Trooper Ryan Kilcollins investigated the accident. Emera Maine and Fairpoint Communications were also on site to repair damage to the utility pole.
