Adam West, Burt Ward, And Julie Newmar Return For Animated ‘Batman’ Movie; There May Be Hope For This Fallen World
If there's one thing that has made the nightmare of existence worth it over the past few years, it's been the revival of and new appreciation for the classic Batman television show. Between the long-awaited release of the series on DVD and the new adventures that have been running in the Batman '66 comic book, it's been a good time to be a fan of what is unquestionably the greatest mass-media incarnation of the Dynamic Duo. But in a few months, we're getting something all new and amazing.
On October 11, Warner Bros. will release Batman: Return of the Caped Crusader, a new animated movie that's not just based on Batman '66, but also features original series actors Adam West, Burt Ward, and Julie Newmar, reprising their roles as Batman, Robin, and Catwoman.
The new movie was announced in a promotional video at Entertainment Weekly, and in addition to featuring the Caped Crusaders dealing with a deathtrap in the form of a gigantic TV dinner, it also hints at a plot featuring Catwoman, the Penguin, the Riddler, and the Joker, who formed the sinister rectangle known as the United Underworld in 1966's Batman: The Movie.
This time, though, they're taking their worldwide villainy to a new frontier: Outer Space.
This is not the first time that these actors have been drawn back to the Batman franchise. West played the Grey Ghost on Batman: The Animated Series, while on Batman: The Brave and the Bold --- a cartoon directly inspired by the '66 television show - West and Newmar appeared as Thomas and Martha Wayne.
Batman: Return of the Caped Crusader will be released digitally on October 11, and on home video on November 1.
