The Caribou Police Department will be out in full force conducting safety checkpoints during the upcoming holiday weekend.

The 2013 “DriveSober, Maine” Impaired Driving Enforcement Campaign will be conducted by the Caribou Police Department in conjunction with the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety.

Caribou Police Chief Michael Gahagan advises thatsafety checkpoints will be along Routes 1, 89 and 161 and Bennett Drive in Caribou Memorial Weekend.

The checkpoint will ensure all motor vehicles, drivers and passengers are complying with laws and making sure the roads are safe for traveling motorists this holiday weekend.

Officers will be checking for proper seat belt use, inadequate exhaust and tires, violations of inspection and registration laws, sobriety and other safety related issues.
