Maine's animal rescues and humane societies help the dogs, cats, and furry friends who have found themselves without a loving home. Plenty of young, playful puppies pass through the doors at rescues and with their adorable eyes and energetic personalities, they often find families without spending much time at the shelter.

Senior dogs are a different story. Old dogs struggle to find new homes when their lives lead them to a rescue. Despite their age, these dogs still have plenty of life in them and they deserve love just like their younger buddies.

These three senior dogs are just a few of the senior pets in Maine looking for their forever homes.

Bashful is a great companion who likes to hang out with people. She greets every person readily and kids with special joy, but then she calms right down. Bashful is smart and willful in her quiet way; she has basic obedience training but sometimes declines to even lift her head if called. Her housetraining is extremely reliable.
