Father's Day Weekend is packed full of options to create some fun and memories right here in the County.  After dodging a few showers on Saturday, skies should clear off nicely by Sunday.

Friday June 13

American Legion Post 145 of Frenchville is holding a Halloween in June Dance on Friday the 13th.  The dance starts at 8 p.m. and lasts until closing time.  Free admission, everyone is welcome.  There'll be a prize for best costume.  Call Steve Page at 543-2014 for more information.

 

Saturday June 14

The Aroostook House of Comfort will host its 2nd Annual Charity Golf Classic Saturday at the Presque Isle Country Club. The four-person scramble costs $75 per person and includes a light breakfast and refreshments, a golf ball and shirt.  Cash prizes will be awarded in men's and women's divisions.  And there's a $10,000 prize for a hole-in-one. The 11th Annual Children’s Fishing Derby will be held Saturday at the Aroostook National Wildlife Refuge,  97 Refuge Road in Limestone. The fishing derby is open to children 16 and under.  Registration begins at 8:00 am, fishing begins at 9. Awards at 12:30 pm. Stop by Community Park in Houlton this Saturday & Sunday for the Aaron Henderson Memorial Softball Tournament. Friends and family will come together to honor Aaron, who lost his life in Afghanistan in 2012. All funds raised will go to the Wounded Warrior Project. The opening ceremonies kick off at 8:30 Saturday morning at the Community Park softball field in Houlton.

The Market Street Co-op in Fort Kent has its Grand Opening on Saturday from 9 to 5.  Free admission to the member-owned retail food co-operative. Includes Ribbon Cutting, Door Prizes, Live Music & Taste Testing.

The Presque Isle Historical Society invites you to take a special Guided Tour of the 1875 Vera Estey House Museum on Saturday to benefit the Central Aroostook Humane Society.  Tours begins at 10 am,  1 & 3 p.m.  Each  tour is limited to 20 people.  Call 762­‐1151 to make reservations.  For more info, go to pihistory.org.

The 2014 State of Maine Moose Lottery will be held Saturday at Gentile Hall at the University of Maine Presque Isle. Hosted by the Presque Isle Fish and Game Club There will be fun for the whole family with a Moose Calling Contest and vendors from throughout Maine and beyond. It all takes place from 9-5.

It's Opening Day at Acadian Village on US Route 1 in Van Buren from 12noon to 5 p.m. There'll be soapmaking, buttermaking, quilting and other traditional demonstrations. Gingerbread cake & ployes will be served to visitors.  Check the Acadian Village webpage for more info.

The Presque Isle Elks will commemorate Flag Day on Saturday with a ceremony at noon. The public is encouraged to attend.  The observance of Flag Day at the Presque Isle Elks Lodge at 508 Main Street will include the presentation of the Flag of the United States by the color guard from the Loring Job Corps, as well as an address by Lt. The Washburn ATV Club will host a Father's Day Weekend Hotdog Roast on Saturday & Sunday from 10-2, Rain or Shine. Hotdogs, Chips, Baked Beans, Salads, Desserts, and drinks. Cost is by donation. There's also a 50/50 Draw. The lucky ticket will be drawn at 2 pm on Sunday.  The  clubhouse is in the red barn behind the Country Farms Market on Gould Street in Washburn.

There will be a dedication of the new Mars Hill-Blaine Sargent & Tweedie Bandstand on Saturday from 4-7 p.m.  Firemen Fred will be the M.C. and Aroostook Brass with Adam Metzler & Friends will be performing. The bandstand is situated near the Mars Hill Fire Station.

 

Sunday June 15

There will be a Father's Day Breakfast served on Sunday from 7:00 to 10:30 at the Chapman Ridge Runners Snowmobile and ATV Club.  Cost is $7 for adults, $3 for children 6-11, and FREE for children under 6.  Menu includes: pancakes, grilled eggs, bacon/sausage, beans, toast, muffins, coffee, juice.  Come as a family!

The Caribou ATV Club will hold an ATV Safety inspection on Sunday from 12 noon - 2 p.m. at the Otter Street Park and Ride in Caribou. Get some general knowledge on the  fundamentals of your daily ATV inspection. Everyone is welcome.

The Knights of Columbus in Houlton are hosting their 6th Annual Father's Day Chicken Barbeque on Sunday from 11:30 - 1:00. Everyone is welcome. It takes place at Saint Mary’s Church, 112 Military Street in Houlton.  Treat Dad to dinner and have some fun. Donations will be accepted.

State Parks and historic sites will treat Maine residents to a free admission on Father’s Day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.  All vehicles bearing Maine license plates will be given free admission Sunday at 48 state-owned and operated sites.
